The 2024 Portuguese Grand Prix was won by Jorge Martin, followed by Enea Bastianini and rookie Pedro Acosta.
Although Bastianini started from pole position for this year's Portuguese Grand Prix, it was Martin who took the lead in the first few metres. Vinalez soon got ahead of Bastianini as well.
Alex Márquez found himself on the ground shortly after the start, but not only was he unhurt, he was able to continue the race after all. On lap four, Raul Fernandez crashed and that was the end of the race for him.
With nineteen laps to go, Martin was still in the lead ahead of Vinales and Bastianini. Bagnaia and Marc Márquez rounded out the top five. Newcomer Acosta was able to get past Binder and began to close in on Márquez. Acosta had a great pace at this stage of the race, so Marc Márquez couldn't resist him for too long.
With four laps to go, Martin continued to hold the lead over Viñales. Bastianini remained in third. Acosta was already in fourth place, having moved ahead of Bagnaia. Subsequently, Marc Márquez also passed Bagnaia, and Bagnaia tried to get right back in front of him, but there was a collision and they both crashed and retired. Fortunately, they're both OK.
On the run-up to the last lap, Viñales, who had been running in second position until then, crashed. It was quite a strange crash. Viñales slowed down on the approach to the straight, didn't turn in the first corner and ended up on the ground. According to Aprilia, the gearbox was to blame.
Martin went on to take the win and move to the first position in the championship. Second place went to Bastianini. Newcomer Acosta could enjoy the third place.
